Sports scores, highlights: Durfee swim team fares well at SEC meet, Diman hockey wins

The winter high school season is midway through the season for Fall River area teams.

Take a look at highlights from Saturday local high school action:

Swimming: Durfee at Southeast Conference championship

SCORE: Boys, Bridgewater-Raynham (484), New Bedford (397), Brockton (322), Durfee (296); Girls: New Bedford (662.50), Bridgewater-Raynham (474), Durfee (420.50), Brockton (187)

LOCATION: UMass-Dartmouth

DATE: Feb. 4

RECORD: Durfee boys, 4-6 (1-2 in SEC), Durfee girls, 6-5 (1-2 in SEC)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers had a few champions in Saturday's Southeast Conference championships. For the girls, Rachael Silva won the 1-meter diving event. Aimee Tiebout captured the 200 freestyle championship. Cooper Long was named champion in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events.

NEXT UP: Silva and Madison Ferreira qualified for the MIAA Diving Sectionals on Wednesday in Dedham.

Boys hockey: Diman/Durfee/Westport at Upper Cape

SCORE: Gallo Arena

LOCATION: Bourne

DATE: Feb. 4

RECORD: Diman/Durfee/Westport 11-1 (9-0 in Mayflower League Large)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals won easily over Upper Cape on the road. Evan Camara led all scorers for Diman/Durfee/Westport with three goals and played solid in the defensive end. Other players who hit the score sheet were Jacob Almeida (two goals, assist), Landen Freitas (goal, assist), Owen Vernon (goal, three assists), and Bryce Medeiros (four assists). Cam Mattos stopped 33 of 34 shots in two periods of work while Aiden Monaghan stopped 12 of 12 in the third period, including coming up big on a few break away attempts.

NEXT UP: The Bengals host Attleboro on Monday.

Girls hockey: Bishop Stang vs. Ursuline Academy

SCORE: Bishop Stang 11, Ursuline Academy 2

LOCATION: Hetland Arena

DATE: Feb. 4

RECORD: Bishop Stang, 10-2-2 (3-2-2 in Catholic Central League)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Spartans dominated their game against Ursuline Academy at home. Case's Lexi Yost led the way for Stang with four goals and an assist. Durfee's Kacey Curran chipped in with three assists and Emily Curran had an assist. Somerset Berkley's Jordan Theriault had a goal and an assists while Meghan Costa finished with an assist. Mikayla Brightman netted four goals while Jenna Nogueira (goal) and Natalie Carrico (assist) also contributed in the win.

NEXT UP: The Spartans host Archbishop Williams on Wednesday.

Indoor track: Diman at Janiak freshmen/sophomore meet

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Feb. 4

RECORD: Diman boys (3-3); Diman girls (4-2)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals athletes perform well at Saturday's Janiak freshmen/sophomore meet. Top girls performers who medaled for Diman were Grace Flattery (high jump; 4'10) and Emma Foley took second place in the 55m hurdles extending her school record (9.77). Hannah King took fourth place in the shot put (26' 11.5"). The 4x400 team of Joleah Rivera, Isabelle Chekares, Alexah Pedder and Emma Foley took fourth place (4:55). Other athletes finishers were Isabelle Chekares (ninth, 300), Alexah Pedder (10th, 600), and Nicole Mota (55 hurdles). For the boys, Asafe Penha took second place in the 55 (7.19) and Ben Bannister placed third place in high jump (5'0). Outside medal contention were Macaulay Crossman (1000), Jack Cestodio (55 hurdles), Mike Souza (mile), Eric Valcourt (mile), Draysen Almeida (300) and Cobb Bettencourt (55).

NEXT UP: The Bengals will compete at the Last Chance Meet at Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday.
