Sports scores, highlights: Somerset Berkley sweeps Dighton-Rehoboth, Connolly girls win

The winter high school season is underway for Fall River area teams.

Boys basketball: Somerset Berkley at Dighton-Rehoboth

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 57, Dighton-Rehoboth 39

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 3-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders remain unbeaten after beating league opponent Dighton-Rehoboth on the road. Mason Medeiros led the way for SBR with a team-high 14 points and six rebounds. Brendan McDonald chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Finn Bjork finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

NEXT UP: The Raiders travel to Apponequet on Thursday.

Boys basketball: Dartmouth vs. Bishop Connolly

SCORE: Dartmouth 104, Bishop Connolly 59

LOCATION: Dartmouth

RECORD: Bishop Connolly, 0-3

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cougars lost a road game against unbeaten Dartmouth. Jah Stephenson led Connolly with 18 points. Alex Kyrnicki chipped in with 14 points. Brandon DeFaria chipped in with 10 points.

Boys basketball: Atlantis Charter vs. Avon

SCORE: Atlantis Charter 46, Avon 39

LOCATION: Atlantis Charter

RECORD: Atlantis Charter, 2-3

HIGHLIGHTS: The Tritons came from behind to beat Avon at home. Angel Martinez was the top scorer for Atlantis Charter with 18 points. Miguel Pimentel had another great performance with 17 points. The Tritons trailed at halftime, 20-14.

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals lost a home game against Holbrook. Sam Perry had a team-high 25 points for Diman. Teammate Sy’air Neal finished with 14 points.

Boys basketball: Joseph Case at Seekonk

SCORE: Seekonk 46, Joseph Case 26

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals lost their game against league opponent Seekonk on the road. Aiden Parent led Case in scoring with a team-high 16 points.

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders won their first game of the season against league opponent Dighton-Rehoboth at home. Bella Nugent led SBR with a team-high 14 points. Anya Kanalski finished in double figures with 11 points. Both Nugent and Kanalski also played great defense.

NEXT UP: The Raiders host Apponequet on Thursday.

Girls Basketball: Joseph Case vs. Seekonk

SCORE: Joseph Case 69, Seekonk 34

LOCATION: Joseph Case

RECORD: Joseph Case, 3-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The unbeaten Cardinals took care of business, beating league opponent Seekonk at home. Brooke Orton paved the way for Case with a game-high 22 points. Liberty Gazaille finished with 13 points and Gianna Lupo chipped in with 10 points. Nine players scored for the Cardinals.

NEXT UP: Case travels to West Bridgewater on Wednesday.

Girls Basketball: Bishop Connolly vs. Southeastern

SCORE: Bishop Connolly 27, Southeastern 21

LOCATION: Bishop Connolly

RECORD: Bishop Connolly, 1-2

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cougars won their first game of the season at home against Southeastern. Sam O'Leary led Connolly with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Morgan Diogo finished with 18 rebounds and two points. Kirstyn Mello has six steals, four rebounds and four points. Kate Mooney finished with five steals and five points. Grace Machado capped the scoring with four points, two steals, two assists, and six rebounds.

Swimming: Seekonk/Somerset Berkley vs. Bishop Feehan

SCORE: Girls: Bishop Feehan 88, Seekonk/Somerset 82; Boys: Bishop Feehan 84, Seekonk/Somerset Berkley 66

RECORD: Seekonk/Somerset girls, 1-1; Seekonk/Somerset Berkley boys, 0-2

HIGHLIGHTS: The Seekonk/Somerset Berkley co-op swim teams lost both their matches against Bishop Feehan at home.

Swimming: Durfee vs. Bishop Stang

SCORE: Boys: Durfee 89, Bishop Stang 40; Girls: Durfee 100, Bishop Stang 67

LOCATION: UMass Dartmouth

DATE: Dec. 20

RECORD: Durfee boys 2-0; Durfee girls 2-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers boys and girls swim and dive teams made a clean sweep with Bishop Stang. Individual winners for the Hilltoppers boys include Cooper Long in the 50 and 100 free, Michael Harrington in the 500 free, Jack Fitzgerald in the 100 backstroke, and Forest Malo in the 100 breaststroke. The relay teams of Harrington, Fitzgerald, Long, and Omar Mahmoud took home the win in both the 200 medley and 200 free. For the Durfee girls, individual winners include Rachael Silva in the 1 meter dive, Aimee Tiebout in the 500 free, Zoie Mussotte in the 100 backstroke, and Claire Bjerre in the 100 breaststroke. Mussotte and Tiebout teamed up with Avery Antunes and Gill Tiburtino in the 200 medley relay to take the win. Standout performances were shown by Paitynn Botelho, Casey Carvalho, and Abigail Carrerio. "It was a complete team effort as many athletes were able to try new events and allow their team to show off their depth," HIlltoppers head coach Christopher Poliseno said.

Indoor track: Durfee vs. Dartmouth

SCORE: Boys: Dartmouth 66, Durfee 34; Girls: Dartmouth 65, Durfee 24

LOCATION: Reggie Lewis Athletic Center

RECORD: Durfee boys 0-1; Durfee girls 0-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers dropped their first meet of the season against Dartmouth in Boston. Aiden Lanciault was a double winner for Durfee in the high jump (5'5") and the 600m (1:35.15 ). Brandon Pinero took first place in the 55m dash while Jayden Pereira placed second in the 55m hurdles. Sebastian Reis earned second place in the shot put, throwing 37-10. Cayden Martins was second in the long jump and third in the 300m. Kayden Kheav was third in the high jump while the relay team of Kayden Kheav, Hyde Farias, Yandel Pichardo, and Adrian Romero took first in the 4x200. For the girls, Shakira Cadet won the 300 meter dash (42.49) and long jump. Jasmine DeSouto won the shot put with a throw of 28'5". Sylvie Brito and Aaliyah Alexandre finished in second and third place, respectively in the 55 meter hurdles. Tianna Gomes took third place in the 55 meter dash while Selena Pereira finished in second place in the high jump. Ann-Favour Shungwa capped the scoring with a third place in the shot put.

Indoor track: Diman vs. Bishop Stang

SCORE: Girls: Diman 56, Bishop Stang 43; Boys: Bishop Stang 68, Diman 32

LOCATION: Wheaton College

RECORD: Diman Girls (3-0); Diman Boys (2-1)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Diman boys and girls track team split their meet against Bishop Stang on Monday. The Bengal girls extend their win streak to three wins. Top performer for Diman was a school-record performance by Emma Foley in the 55m Hurdles (9.91). She also won the 55m (7.91) and the long jump (14’11). Inez Medeiros won the 300m (46.03) and came second in the 55m (7.96). Kaitlyn Nickelson won the high Jump (5’0”), Eden McCausland took second in the 600m (2:02), Lylah Thibeault had two second-place showings (1 mile, 2 mile) and Grace Flattery finished with two second place finishes (HJ and 1000m). The Bengal boys lost their first meet of the year. Winning the 55m for the Bengals was Nathan Nascimento (7.09) with Asafe Penha in second (7.42) and Keith Gomes took third (7.44). Will Ferreira finished second in the mile and two mile (5:27, 12:03). Ethan Cabral had a second-place finish in the 600m (1:37).
