Sports scores, highlights: Somerset Berkley hockey wins Prenda Cup, Case track sweeps meet

The winter high school season is underway for Fall River area teams.

Take a look at highlights from Saturday's local high school action:

Ice Hockey: Somerset Berkley vs. Apponequet

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 6, Apponequet 2

LOCATION: Driscoll Ice Arena

DATE: Dec. 17

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 2-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders were named the Prenda Cup champions after beating league opponent Apponequet in the finals. Davis Sullivan netted a pair of goals and had an assist for SBR. Mason Sullivan had a goal and an assist. Other goal scorers were Bryden Pimental, Nate Melo (assist) and Kein Stafford. Matt Costa, Jack Rothwell, Cam McKenna and Aaron Preston each collected assists. Brandon Silva stopped 20 shots on net for the victory.

NEXT UP: The Raiders host Greater New Bedford Wednesday.

Ice Hockey: Diman/Durfee/Westport vs. Mt. Hope

SCORE: Diman/Durfee/Westport 9, Mt. Hope 0

LOCATION: Driscoll

DATE: Dec. 17

RECORD: Diman, 1-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals co-op team won their first game of the season after beating Mt. Hope in the consolation game of the Prenda Cup tournament. Bryce Medeiros lead the way for Diman with two goals and three assists. Freshman Jacoby Brouillard netted his first varsity goal. Owen Vernon (goal), Ryan Sanford (goal, three assists), Connor Santos (goal), Jacob Almeida (goal, assist), Evan Camara (goal, three assist), Landen Freitas (goal), and Jared Martins (assist) each contributed in the win.

NEXT UP: The Bengals host South Shore on Dec. 28.

Boys Track: Somerset Berkley vs Fairhaven

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 56, Fairhaven 30

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Dec. 17

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 1-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders won their first meet of the season against league opponent Fairhaven. Notable performers from SBR were Chandler Doehler (shot put, 40'11), Dean Gobeil (55m, 6.7), Jack Hansen (600m, 1:34), and Camden Rose (300m, 40.4).

NEXT UP: The Raiders face Dighton-Rehoboth on Jan. 5.

Boys Indoor Track: Joseph Case vs. Apponequet

SCORE: Apponequet 58, Joseph Case 24

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Dec. 17

RECORD: Joseph Case, 0-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals lost their meet against league opponent Apponequet. Devin Silva led Case, winning three individual events — the 55, 300, and the high jump. Other first-place finishers was Jacob Janicki, who threw a personal-best of 38’1” in the shot put. Baylor Thacker took second in the hurdles and Ben Fortier added a third place showing in the 300.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals face Seekonk on Thursday.

Girls Track: Somerset Berkley vs Fairhaven

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 48, Fairhaven 38

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Dec. 17

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 1-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders captured their first meet of the season against Fairhaven. Top performers for SBR were Reese Swanson (high jump, 4'8 and 55m dash, 7.9), Emily Carr (55 Hurdles, 10.2), Cali Leger (30.5', shot put), and Ashley O'Donovan (300m, 49)

NEXT UP: The Raiders face Dighton-Rehoboth on Jan. 5.

Girls Indoor Track: Joseph Case vs. Apponequet

SCORE: Joseph Case 49, Apponequet 37

LOCATION: Greater New Bedford

DATE: Dec. 17

RECORD: Joseph Case, 1-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals won their first meet of the season, beating league opponent Apponequet. Hannah Santos set a new school record (5’3”) in the high jump and had a successful hurdling debut winning in 9.9 for Case. Olivia Silva joined Santos in qualifying for the D5 State Meet, taking first in the shot put (32’1”). Ashlyn Byrnes won both distance events, placing first in the mile and 2-mile. Freshman Emma Bouchard won the 55 and took third in 300. Hannah Storm was first across the line in the 1000 while Jenna Benfeito (55m)  Brooke Perron (shot put) and Kaelyn Lecomte (hurdles) each took second place. Lily Picard completed the sweep in the shot put with a third-place finish.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals face Seekonk on Thursday.
