Sports scores, stats for Monday: B-R softball's Welch tosses opening day no-hitter

TAUNTON— The spring high school sports season is officially upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

Here's a look at all of the scores, stats and highlights from Monday.

Baseball: Taunton vs. Sharon

SCORE: Taunton 20, Sharon 0 (5 innings)

LOCATION: Taunton High School

DATE: April 3

RECORD: 1-0 (1-0 Hockomock League)

HIGHLIGHTS: Shawn Cali led the way for the Tigers, tossing four shutout innings allowing one hit while striking out five while also going two-for-four at the plate with a pair of runs and RBIs each. Brady Boucher pitched a shutout inning in relief and also went two-for-three at the plate with a pair of RBIs while AJ Lewis went two-for-five with a home run, two RBIs and three runs.

HIGHLIGHTS: Set scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17. Matt Freitas led the way for the Tigers with eight kills, three blocks and and two digs while Owen Kelley had seven kills and five digs, Josh Duncan had three kills, three blocks and on e ace and Al Morisseau had two kills, two blocks, two aces and two digs, Ty Ekstrom and Daniel Freitas each had 12 assists while Bradley Highlander had five digs.

Baseball: Bridgewater-Raynham at Barnstable

SCORE: Bridgewater-Raynham 11, Barnstable 1

LOCATION: Barnstable High School

DATE: April 3

RECORD: 1-0 (0-0 Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: Luke Barry earned the win for the Trojans, striking out seven in four innings of work. At the plate, Owen King led the way going two-for-three with a triple and four RBIs while Kevin Doyle went two-for-two with a triple and an RBI.

Softball: Bridgewater-Raynham vs. Braintree

SCORE: Bridgewater-Raynham 1, Braintree 0 (9 innings)

LOCATION: Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School

HIGHLIGHTS: Lily Welch led the way for the Trojans tossing a complete game, nine inning no hitter, striking out 17 in the process. Taylor Reid plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single.

Boys Tennis: Bridgewater-Raynham at Barnstable

SCORE: Barnstable 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 1

LOCATION: Barnstable High School

HIGHLIGHTS: Logan Thomas scored the Trojans' lone victory in third singles (6-4, 7-5).

SCORE: Tri-County 6, Bristol-Plymouth 3

HIGHLIGHTS: Emma Ericson led the way offensively for the Craftsmen with a pair of goals while Mackenzie Oleary scored the other and E Bradford made 23 saves in net.

HIGHLIGHTS: Isaac Christmas and Brennan Silva each recorded a pair of hits for the Falcons.

Softball: Dighton-Rehoboth vs. Fairhaven

SCORE: Dighton-Rehoboth 20, Fairhaven 5 (5 innings)

LOCATION: Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School

RECORD: 1-1 (1-0 SCC)

HIGHLIGHTS: Propelled by a seven run first inning, the Falcons cruised to their first win of the year. Emma Horrocks had three hits, two of which were home runs, and five runs while sisters Caleigh Cloonan and Cam Cloonan both homered as well. Haleigh Kelley went four-for-four at the plate while Madalyn Kelley, Corinne Braga and both Cloonans also had multiple hits on the afternoon. Kylie Hillier earned the win in the circle for D-R, going four innings giving up five runs and striking out three while Hannah Carey struck out two in an inning of work to close out the game.
