Sportsbooks respond after NFL postpones Bengals vs. Bills due to Damar Hamlin's collapse

With the Monday Night Football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills was postponed after safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest in the first quarter, sportsbooks are starting to respond with the game not being resumed later this week.

Tuesday, the NFL announced that the Bengals vs. Bills game would not be resumed before Week 18 began. The league has not made a decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.

“There’s nothing in consideration right now,” Jeff Miller, NFL EVP of communications, public affairs and policy said Monday night. “Our concern is for the player and his well-being. At the appropriate time, I’m sure that we’ll have a conversation around the next steps regarding the game.”

FanDuel Sportsbook was the first to respond, telling customers that all bets that had not been settled prior to the stoppage of the game would be voided and the wager would return to the customer's accounts Tuesday.

If the voided bet was a part of a multi-leg parlay, the remainder of the parlay will remain active with only the voided leg removed and the price adjusted accordingly.

BetMGM followed suit, announcing it would void all unsettled wagers with refunds returned to the bettor's account within the next 24 hours.

Draft Kings Sportsbook also announced Tuesday that all wagers that had not been determined, such as spreads or money lines, would be voided.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, which also voided all bets from Monday night's game, the Bills were 1.5-point favorites against the Bengals.

What do sportsbook rules say about postponed or canceled games?

According to BetMGM rules, pro and college football results are official after 55 minites of play, "unless otherwise stipulated in individual Football sports wager rules." The sportsbook does not recognize suspended games that have met the minimum time or length requirement, protests or overturned decisions for wagering purposes.

DraftKings Sportsbook states there must be five minutes or less of scheduled game time left for bets to have action unless the "specific market outcome is already unconditionally determined." If an event or game is halted before the minimum game time is played and not completed within 48 hours of the initial start date, bets will be void. And if a game is halted and replayed in full, all initial bets are void.
