A growing Jacksonville church is expanding to the Oceanway area into a vacant retail space.

The Church of Eleven22 is about to create a new campus at 418 Starratt Road at a former Food Lion and shopping center. Jacksonville Building Inspections Division officials approved permits this month for a major interior buildout and conversion of the structure.

The project will cost about $5.3 million and will convert the building from retail space to an assembly area. Scherer Construction of North Florida LLC is the contractor.

It will be the first location of a Church of Eleven22 on the Northside. The congregation has been expanding its presence across the Jacksonville area for the past decade.

The nondenominational church opened a new location in 2015 after buying a former Sneakers sports bar on Point Meadows Drive in the Baymeadows.

It has other locations on Beach Boulevard at San Pablo Road, Commerce Center Drive in Arlington, Losco Road in Mandarin, Fleming Island, Orange Park and Saint Johns.

JSO gun range to get more improvements

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is going to get another round of improvements at its gun range.

Several new additions are coming to the tactical firing range at 4727 Lannie Road in Jacksonville’s northwest area. Permits for the work were approved this month by city building inspectors.

The latest projects will include the addition of an 8,700-square-foot storage structural steel storage building. New offices and classrooms will also be added to the facility.

The cost of the latest additions will run about $2.4 million, according to permit documents.

Contractor Auld & White Constructors LLC will handle the work for the Sheriff’s Office.

This is the second major additional project at the gun range this year. In May the city approved permits for a $1.3 million building to be added to the facility. That building was also a metal structure that covered 6,750 square feet.
