Spreading love this Valentine’s day: How one Sheffield teen is making the most of the holiday

SHEFFIELD, Ala. (WHNT) — Getting a flower on Valentine’s Day is something every girl and young woman should get to experience.

Carter Smith, who is a freshman at Sheffield High School in Colbert County, has been spreading love every February since he was in elementary school.

He’s kind of like a high school bachelor, except he makes sure every girl gets a rose.

“I don’t know why but I just felt bad for some of the girls that didn’t really have anybody to go to hang out with or just didn’t really feel loved so I asked my mom if we could start passing out flowers to all the girls just so they could feel loved, know who god is and know that he loves them no matter what happens,” said Carter Smith.

In the first few minutes of the school day, Carter handed out a single flower to each girl with a little sweet note attached that said, “Let all that you do be done with love.”

Carter says his favorite part about spreading love is seeing it go around.

“Just everybody being happy smiling, everybody’s together,” said Carter.

It’s just so peaceful and happy.”

“Seeing the smiles on girls’ faces just knowing that I’m making a difference just makes me happy,” he added.

Carter has been making the ladies smile since second grade, and his flower of choice has fluctuated over the years from carnations to roses.

This year he opted for some pretty pink flowers.

It wasn’t just his classmates who received a flower, he also passed out some to his teachers and other school staff
