The No. 1 Beauty Trend You’ll Love To Wear This Spring

The days when a periwinkle shade would be packed onto the eyelid and be considered kitschy are long gone, my friends. We’ve got a much more sophisticated version of blue on our hands… pardon, eyelids, these days.
Yet history has a way of repeating itself. So do beauty trends. Three years ago we’ve had a chance to witness the emergence of an elevated, more modern blue eye makeup, both on and off runway. The likes of Jason Wu and Rodarte perfected the look of nonchalant, cool blues without ever awakening the 80s disco memories in our minds.

Back to the future. It’s the spring of 2016 and eye-popping blue eye makeup is once again in focus. The it-girls Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss are veterans when it comes to sporting the non-everyday looks straight from the runway, but what are we mere mortals to do?

At the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2016 show, lead artist Francelle Daly explained that when the eyes are in focus, the skin needs to be “clean, simple and real”.

“There is a boldness of color coming from the eye, a reference of new romanticism and new wave with the bright blue and black lines.” - she added, making a strong case for this trend.

If you are aching to get out of your everyday makeup rut, but are intimidated by the intensity of blue - take it slow. A great way to start is just by adding pops of colour here and there. Incorporate the blue in form of a pencil eyeliner or mascara. Using a small brush, smudge your blue eye shadow close to the lash line and do the rest of your makeup as you normally would. Alternatively, freshen up your look by sweeping the lighter blue hue on the lower lash line.
