Spring break in southwest Michigan: Six family attractions

Southwest Michigan remains mired in cold weather as spring break week kicked off for local school districts on Monday.

Those who flocked to warmer climates or exotic destinations don't get to have all the fun.

Here are six kid-friendly attractions in the region for the entire family to enjoy this week:

Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum

Where: 6151 Portage Road, Portage

What: The Air Zoo Aerospace and Science Museum is both an aviation museum and indoor amusement park. Located next to the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport in Portage, it features more than 100 rare and historic air and space artifacts, amusement park-style rides, full-motion flight simulators, a theater and historical exhibitions.

American Museum of Magic

Where: 107 E. Michigan Ave., Marshall

What: Located in downtown Marshall, the American Museum of Magic is the largest public museum in the Western Hemisphere devoted to the history of magic and magic performance. The museum is hosting its opening day for the season on Saturday, April 2 with a 1 p.m. show by magician John Dudley.

Capri Drive-In

Where: 119 W. Chicago Road, Coldwater

What: Located along US-12, Capri Drive-In can accommodate up to 900 vehicles, with double features playing on two screens. Opened in 1964, it begins its season Friday, April 1 with showings of "Morbius" (PG-13), "Uncharted" (PG-13), "The Batman" (PG-13) and "Jackass Forever" (R).

Gilmore Car Museum

What: With over 400 antique vehicles spanning its 90-acre campus, the Gilmore Car Museum is a nonprofit that aims to share the history of America through automobiles. Open daily, the museum is hosting "Cars and Characters: A Celebration of Princesses and Superheroes" fundraiser event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2. Tickets can be purchased at gilmorecarmuseum.org.

Kids-N-Stuff Children's Museum

What: One of 10 children's museums in Michigan, Kids-N-Stuff offers hands-on learning experiences through interactive exhibits and programming. Located in downtown Albion, the museum has special spring break hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday, April 2, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3.
