Hallmark‘s Mahogany banner has dropped the trailer for its upcoming movie directed by Mykelti Williamson.
Spring Breakthrough will premiere Sunday, April 30 (7 p.m. ET/PT) on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. The movie stars Keesha Sharp (Lethal Weapon, Girlfriends), Demetrius Grosse (Lovecraft Country, Rampage), Rhyon Nicole Brown (Our Kind of Love, Empire), and Akono Dixon (All American, Euphoria).
Here's an official description:
Monica Rollins (Sharp) is a single mother who excitedly waits for her daughter, Vivian (Brown), to come home for spring break, which is their annual tradition. Days before, after years of tireless dedication to her job, Monica is unceremoniously fired. To make matters worse, Monica is dealt a second blow when Vivian announces her surprise engagement to Shawn (Dixon), someone Monica didn’t even know existed. She travels to The Gulf Shores for the engagement celebration, secretly determined to put an end to it, believing Vivian is much too young to be married. En route, she meets Clark Randall (Grosse) at the airport, who also happens to be Shawn’s godfather, and an unexpected flirtation ignites. Monica and Clark spar about what she perceives as his juvenile attitude, but as they learn more about each other, Monica begins to have a change of heart and just may find that she’s ready to open herself up to love once again.
The Mahogany films are rooted in the spirit of iconic Hallmark greeting card line of the same name.
As previously reported, Mahogany is expanding Crown Media’s content offerings with powerful storytelling that exemplifies Hallmark’s core ethos – family, community, human connection, positivity and the transformational power of love – through the unique lens of Black culture.
Spring Breakthrough is from Redline Entertainment with Silvia Mathis serving as executive producer. The film is produced by David Wulf and directed by Williamson with a script coming from Rhonda Baraka & Samantha Herman.
