The Field Guide Fest, which spotlights how our food system operates and celebrates local producers by pairing farmers with dozens of the area’s top chefs, returns to Austin on April 20.

The one-day festival at Fiesta Gardens features live-fire cooking, symposium discussions, live music, wine and spirits tastings and a farmers market. New to the slate of programming this year are a vegetable omakase experience and pizza party happy hour.

The roster of chef-farmer talent includes the following pairs: Amanda Turner (Olamaie) and Ty and Sara Burk (True Bird Farm); Chelsea Fadda (Pecan Square Café) and Cody and Natalie Scott (Green Bexar Farm); Edgar Rico (Nixta Taqueria) and Erin Gomez and Allen Li (Solana Farm); Fiore Tedesco (L’Oca D’Oro) and Perrine Noelke (Local Pastures); and Tracy Malechek-Ezekiel (Birdie’s) and Becky Hume (VRDNT Farm).

Speakers at the festival include Katherine Miller, author of "At The Table,” who will be sharing techniques she developed during her time with the James Beard Foundation’s Chefs Boot Camp for Policy and Change.

“Without these working relationships built by our commitment to buy local where and when available, our food system is incomplete. Field Guide Fest shines a light on these pathways, making the information accessible to anyone, while enjoying amazing food and connection,” festival culinary director and Comedor chef-partner Philip Speer said in a release.

Tickets for the event, which runs from 1 to 5 p.m., cost $120 ($60 for ages 13-20; and free for kids under 13), with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank.
