Spring food, flower festival coming to Sturgis

STURGIS - A new festival is scheduled to come to Sturgis Friday, with food and a celebration of the spring season.

The Sturgis Spring Food and Flower Fest is set for 5:30 to 9 p.m. in downtown Sturgis.

The downtown North Street will be dedicated to a "Tastings of the Great Lakes" row, with the North Street stage featuring several presentations.

  • Karen Lance will discuss honey bees at 5:30 p.m.

  • CTE AgriScience will present at 6 p.m.

  • Award-winning florist Doug Bates will speak at 7 p.m.

  • Author Laura Kurella will put on a miniature cooking event starting at 7:45 p.m.

A cherry blossom tree will be dedicated at 6 p.m. at the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, a cooperative event with the Japanese Historical Society of Michigan.

Craft and outdoor vendors are set to line the sidewalks along Chicago Road, with trolley car rides offered for $1 per person. A free floral "make and take" project will be held at the Open Door Art Gallery. Live acoustic musicians and kids bounce houses will round out the spring celebration.
