Spring Hill hires ‘number two’ staff leader from Wyoming

Spring Hill recently hired its staff's second-in-command, Tony Tolstedt, who is transitioning from a top administrator role in Wyoming.

Tolstedt was officially welcomed as general assistant city administrator at the September meeting of the city's board of mayor and aldermen.

“If you look at the things that are happening, the growth, the activity, the quality of life, those things are pretty significant,” Tolstedt said.

“This is a nice place and a great position with a great group of people trying to do some really good stuff.”

Tolstedt previously worked for nearly five years as city manager for the City of Riverton, Wyoming, which has a population of about 11,000.

Tolstedt now oversees the Spring Hill library, parks and recreation facilities. In addition, he will supervise emergency management, microbusiness development and GIS mapping efforts.

“Tony comes with proven municipal leadership experience, having led small, growing cities effectively,” said city administrator Pamela Caskie. “Both he and his wife, a school librarian, are excited to join us. That says a lot because Wyoming — her family’s home — was a tough place to leave, particularly during the summer.”

The family moved last month to Spring Hill to enroll their two children in local schools.

“It’s a combination of items that drew us from Wyoming to Tennessee and to Spring Hill. It’s absolutely lived up to the hype,” Tolstedt said.

Tolstedt holds a master’s degree in public administration and a graduate certificate in strategic human resources management from the University of Denver.
