Spring snow, wind to cause possible power outages in higher elevations of Vermont

Heavy snow up to 10 inches is expected in the Green Mountain summits along with rain in lower elevations across Vermont on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington.

The snow may cause isolated to scattered power outages, the National Weather Service says on its website.

Vermont will see primarily rain and high winds between 35 and 45 mph, with the exception of Windsor and Rutland counties which may see some wet snow, Rebecca Duell, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Burlington, said.

The bulk of the storm will hit Western Clinton, Western Essex, Southeastern St. Lawrence and Southern Franklin Counties in New York Monday evening from 11 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Travel may be hazardous, and 1 to 2 inches of snow may accumulate hourly overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

While power outages may be more likely in New York, "you can't rule out Vermont," Duell said. "Vermont is going to have some strong winds."

The Northeast Kingdom may experience the highest wind speeds, which can cause power outages regardless of snow.
