2023 Spring Training: Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins announce Grapefruit League schedules

Although there's still a month left in MLB's regular season, it's never too early to think about Spring Training.

The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins released their 2023 Spring Training schedules on Wednesday.

The Twins’ 33rd spring at Hammond Stadium features 33 total games (17 home, 16 road), including a home exhibition on Thursday, March 9 against a to-be-determined opponent from the upcoming World Baseball Classic tournament. The Grapefruit League openers are set for Saturday, Feb. 25 with the Twins playing a split-squad game, including a home game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Red Sox will begin their 12th season at JetBlue Park at Fenway South on Friday, Feb. 24, with a game against the Northeastern University Huskies. The club will play 18 home games and 16 away games, including 32 Grapefruit League games against seven American League teams and four National League teams.

Boston will play a World Baseball Classic exhibition game on Wednesday, March 8 in a matchup will be announced at a later date.

Twins home games include three contests against the Rays (Feb. 25, March 16, 21) and Atlanta Braves (Feb. 28, March 19, 25); two games apiece against the Red Sox (March 3, 11), Baltimore Orioles (March 7, 17) and Pittsburgh Pirates (March 14, 27); as well as single games against the Philadelphia Phillies (March 1), Detroit Tigers (March 5), New York Yankees (March 13) and Toronto Blue Jays (March 23).

The Twins will conclude their schedule on Tuesday, March 28 with a road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton before beginning the 2023 regular season on Thursday, March 30 with an Opening Day contest against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

The Red Sox will play 11 games against divisional opponents, including two against their American League East rival New York Yankees. The club will face the Yankees on Friday, March 9, in Tampa and will host the Yankees on Sunday, March 12. Other divisional matchups include four games against the Tampa Bay Rays, three games against the Baltimore Orioles, and two against the Toronto Blue Jays. The team will also square off against the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Red Sox will look to defend their Lee County Commissioners Cup title against their cross-town foes, the Minnesota Twins, with games at JetBlue Park on Feb. 27, March 22, and 26.
