Spring training traffic: Find out how the Red Sox and Twins did us a big favor this year

The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins started the Major League Baseball portion of their 2024 Spring Training schedules today on Saturday. Whether by design or by a stroke of luck, Spring Training in Fort Myers this year will be a little less stressful when it comes to our already red alert level traffic.

In the past couple of years, the Red Sox and Twins have had weekday games on their schedules on the same day and at the same time. With both teams playing in stadiums only four miles apart and located off the Daniels Parkway corridor — the Red Sox at JetBlue Park and the Twins at the Lee Health Sports Complex — those days could be classified as a traffic nightmare.

The games would usually end right around when rush hour was starting, and it would create a perfect storm on the roads with mile-long backups.

This year? There are none of these weekday "double-header" games on the schedule and that means a little less congestion on the roads in 2024 anyway.
