Springfield man arrested after Monday wreck that killed Taney County woman at stop sign

A Taney County woman was killed Monday afternoon when a pickup truck hit her vehicle as she was stopped at a stop sign.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Sandra Puckett, 55, of Walnut Shade, had been traveling west on Missouri 176, less than three miles south of Saddlebrooke, when she encountered a stop sign.

Puckett was stopped when a northbound Ford F-150 driven by Richard Rogers, 48, of Springfield, crossed over Missouri 176 and struck the Nissan Rouge that Puckett was driving.

Both vehicles traveled down an embankment and came to rest. The accident was reported shortly before 3:15 p.m. Monday.

Puckett was transported by ambulance to Cox Branson, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Matthew Puckett, 32, of Walnut Shade, was a passenger in Sandra Puckett's vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to CoxSouth with serious injuries.

In a separate report, the patrol said driver Richard Rogers was arrested at the scene on allegations of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and DWI that resulted in the death of another.

Rogers was transported to the Taney County Jail.
