More than a month after claiming self-defense in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Brandon Huddleston has been charged with second-degree murder.

Huddleston was arrested by Springfield Police in November for allegedly committing felony robbery alongside the eventual shooting victim, Lacey Nix. Following the alleged robbery, the two reportedly got into an argument over the stolen money at her 4231 W. La Siesta Street home. Nix was shot and killed during their Nov. 13 altercation, but prosecutors didn't appear to initially have enough evidence to charge the 25-year-old man with murder.

After reviewing footage from Nyx's Blink security camera, investigators thought they had enough to charge Huddleston with domestic assault for allegedly striking Nix, 32, in the head at her home Nov. 11.

It was two days later, police said, that the couple robbed the woman's former employer, Spin City on Kearney Street, and took roughly $5,000, ultimately leading to a dispute in which Huddleston claimed Nix pointed a gun at him before he shot and killed her.

Huddleston was also charged with possession of methamphetamine in relation to the Nov. 13 incident. In his previous assault arrests in 2017 and 2018, court records indicate the cases were dismissed after one of the victims died and another victim did not appear in court.
