Springfield native Cailee Spaeny cast in Sofia Coppola's new film, 'Priscilla'

A Springfield actress is playing a leading role in a new biographical drama about Elvis Presley, expected to hit theaters this fall.

Springfield's Cailee Spaeny, 24, is Priscilla Presley in "Priscilla, a drama based on the 1985 memoir "Elvis and Me," written by Elvis' former wife Priscilla. The story follows the life of Priscilla and her relationship with Elvis. The movie is expected for release in October.

On screen, Spaeny is joined by Jacob Elordi as Elvis, known for his roles in Netflix's "The Kissing Booth," "Swinging Safari" and HBO's "Euphoria."

"Priscilla" was written, directed and co-produced by Sofia Coppola, known for directing "Lost in Translation," "Marie Antoinette" and "The Virgin Suicides." In 2004, she received an Oscar for "Best Writing, Original Screenplay" for "Lost in Translation."

Before making it on the big screen, Spaeny graced The Landers Theatre stage in "many" Springfield Little Theatre plays, according to IMDb. Spaeny's breakout role was in "Pacific Rim: Uprising" as Amara Namani, the film's deuteragonist.
