It’s one of the oldest rivalries there is.

It’s older than the Cubs versus Cardinals, older than Coke versus Pepsi, it's cops versus firefighters. And next week they’re going head-to-head in Springfield.

Next Saturday, Aug. 6, the Springfield Fire Department and Police Department will go head-to-head on the court for a charity basketball game called Guns n’ Hoses benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The event will be held at Glendale High School. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the game begins at 6:30 p.m.

Earlier in the year, the two departments went head-to-head in hockey and beach volleyball, both of which the fire department won, but the police department is feeling confident that basketball is its sport.

“They beat us in hockey. They demolished us in beach volleyball,” SPD wrote on Facebook. “Basketball is our time!”

The Fire Department has not responded to SPD's good-natured "smack talk."

The tickets for the event are $5 and are on sale now. Those interested in going can buy a ticket in support of the police department or the fire department. Raffle Tickets are also for sale as well as T-shirts. All proceeds will go to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.
