Springfield Police looking for woman accused of removing ankle monitor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department is actively looking for a woman who is accused of taking her ankle monitor off and going on the run.

Officials said Keyannya Simpson, 42, was on pretrial release conditions after an arrest for retail theft. She was placed on a monitor on Wednesday, but officials said she removed it without authorization the following day.

A warrant for her arrest was issued the same day.

Officials added that Simpson has been arrested 67 times in the past for various offenses. 24 were for larceny and theft, which resulted in seven convictions and prison sentences in both Illinois and Tennessee. The Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s website indicates that Simpson, in that county alone, has been involved in 15 felony cases for theft and forgery since 2022.
