Updated: Springfield Police arrest suspect in Thursday evening homicide on south side

Springfield police said they have arrested an 18-year-old Springfield man who is a suspect in a Thursday evening homicide on South Virginia Avenue.

The department said homicide detectives identified Peyton Lafferty, 18, as a suspect and arrested him Friday. He was later charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action and was being held in the Greene County Jail with no bond.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired at 3417 S. Virginia Ave. before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and found Jason Walker, 22, with gunshot wounds. Walker was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Walker’s family has been notified.
