Springfield Public Schools closed on Wednesday due to winter weather

Springfield Public Schools will not be in session Wednesday due to expected winter weather.

The district notified parents of the closure late Tuesday. Both seated classes and live virtual instruction have been canceled.

The National Weather Service is forecasting five to nine inches of snow Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, with some areas receiving as much as a foot of snow. Areas along and southeast of Interstate are expected to receive the most accumulation.

High temperatures in the mid- to low-30s are forecasted Wednesday and Thursday. The temperature is expected to warm as high as 50 by Saturday before growing colder again next week.

Commuters are encouraged to drive carefully Wednesday and avoid unnecessary trips and state and local crews work to clear streets.
