Springfield teen killed, passenger injured, driver arrested in wreck near Rogersville

A Springfield teenager was killed and a Rogersville teenager was injured in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday near Rogersville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has not named the 17-year-old male passenger killed in the accident. His body was transported to Greenlawn East Funeral Home.

The patrol reported a 2020 BMW was going east on Route D, two miles north of Rogersville, shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday when it went off the roadway and overturned.

The driver was Benjamin Sugg, 18, of Springfield.

The patrol reported that two hours after the wreck, Sugg was arrested on suspicion of DWI involving the death of another, leaving the scene of a fatality crash, careless and imprudent driving involving a crash and being a minor visibly intoxicated.

He was booked into the Greene County Jail on a 24-hour hold.

Jacob Zimmerman, 18, of Rogersville, was also a passenger in the car. He suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to CoxSouth in Springfield.

Sugg was wearing a seatbelt but the passengers were not, the patrol reported. The Greene County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene.
