A Springfield teen was ejected from a vehicle and then struck and killed following a crash on Interstate 44.

Madison Bell, 18, of Springfield, was a passenger in a 2009 Ford Escape driven by Alexander Witt, 21, of Springfield.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the vehicle was going east when it ran off the right side of I-44, struck an embankment and overturned.

Bell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle onto the roadway.

The patrol reported the teen was then struck by an unknown vehicle that did not stop.

Bell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster County coroner.

The accident was shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday on I-44, six miles east of Marshfield.

The patrol reported it was unknown if Witt was wearing a seatbelt. He suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital.
