Springfield woman dies in weekend crash. Police say car tried to pass in turn lane.

The Springfield Police Department is investigating a traffic accident that killed 51-year-old Lana Reed of Springfield.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Lynn Street.

According to officials, the initial investigation indicates that a 2000 Chevrolet Monto Carlo, of which Reed was a passenger, was driving south on Grant when it entered the center turn lane to pass a 2014 Nissan Altima.

However, the Monto Carlo collided head-on with a 2005 Volkswagen Touareg and the force of the crash caused the Monto Carlo to spin and then hit the Nissan which ran off the road.

Reed, as well as the driver of the Monto Carlo and another passenger, were all transported to the hospital and Reed later died from her injuries.

Police say the driver of the Monto Carlo has not been arrested because he is still hospitalized due to his injuries.

The Springfield Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and asks that anyone with information on the incident contact the Police at 417-864-1810.

Reed's death marks the 10th traffic fatality in Springfield this year.
