Sprouts, Brevard's first EōS Fitness slated for plaza on Wickham Road in north Melbourne

Sprouts Farmers Market officials plan to open their second Space Coast grocery at a future Wickham Road retail plaza near Melbourne's northern city limits — alongside Brevard County's first EōS Fitness, which would sprawl across 43,500 square feet.

"It's a thriving gym, really competing with LA Fitness," said Jerry Hart, a Tampa-based executive vice president with Barclay Group, a national developer for EōS Fitness.

Hart spoke Thursday night after the Melbourne Planning and Zoning Board unanimously recommended approval of a site plan and preliminary plat for the opening phase of Pineda Commons, the proposed plaza. The Melbourne City Council will cast future, final votes.

Today, Pineda Commons is an undeveloped 17.8-acre property across from Home Depot at the southeast corner of North Wickham Road and Business Center Boulevard. This land was annexed into the city in 2003, along with adjacent properties south of the Pineda Causeway.

Anchored by EōS Fitness, the plaza's first stage also includes a 24,000-square-foot Sprouts and 7,500 square feet of retail shops.

EōS Fitness has more than 100 locations open or planned in geographic clusters in Southern California; Phoenix, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada; Salt Lake City, Utah; Houston and Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas.

In the Sunshine State, the chain's current and planned gyms are primarily clustered around Tampa Bay and South Florida. The state's fifth EōS Fitness opened in mid-May in Lutz. Hart said the Melbourne location would be the chain's first on Florida's East Coast.

"We're excited to be here. This is an area that they've targeted," he said.

Hart said he hopes crews break ground on Pineda Commons in the fourth quarter of 2024.
