Sprouts Farmers Market opens new grocery store west of Boca Raton this weekend

South County will get its second Sprouts Farmers Market this summer on Friday, Aug. 18.

The new store will open west of Boca Raton at 9831 Glades Road. It will join a series of other stores and eateries at Boca Raton’s Shadowood Square, including Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Old Navy, Starbucks and Boston Market.

After a ribbon cutting at 6:45 a.m., doors to the store will open at 7 a.m.

“Our area is known for fresh agricultural products,” Vice Mayor of Palm Beach County Maria Sachs said. “Our people are noted for their interest in fresh, organic foods. This is a marriage made in heaven.”

The move comes after the Phoenix-based supermarket chain closed 11 of its stores nationwide — including one in Wellington — for being “too big” and not generating enough revenue. The Glades Road store will cover 25,800 square feet, approximately 4,000 square feet smaller than the former Wellington site.

It’s the second new Palm Beach County store since the chain shuttered its Wellington location in April. The first opened in June at the Delray Commons shopping center on the southwest corner of Atlantic Avenue and Military Trail.

The location will be one of four Sprouts added in Florida this summer. Aside from the new Delray Beach site, a Sprouts was added in Bradenton in June and Fort Myers in July.

Here's what's planned for the new Sprouts west of Boca Raton this weekend

The new spot has a number of activities scheduled Friday through Sunday:

  • A “pop-up party” out front will give guests a chance to taste seasonal produce, play games, have their faces painted, see artists carve large produce and more.

  • On Friday morning, Falcon Farms Floral will be handing out long stem roses to the first 400 guests.

  • The first 200 shoppers on Friday and Saturday will get a free "Goodness: It’s Free" reusable goodie bag filled with special products and samples.

  • Inside the store, shoppers will have a chance to try samples from different brands at the Vendor Village.

  • Dog treats from Bundle x Joy will be gifted to shoppers Sunday. An in-store scavenger hunt, too, will take place.

  • At checkout, customers who text “BOCA” to 777-688 will get 20% off their purchase when they scan their Sprouts smartphone app account barcode.

Also through the app, customers will be able to view the Sprouts weekly ad to earn digital coupons each month. The rewards will continue beyond Aug. 20. With a valid coupon, customers will get $10 off their purchases when they spend $50 or more.

Sprouts works with local farmers like Alderman Farms in Boynton Beach, Santa Sweets and Wish Farms in Plant City and other Florida farming operations source produce, per a Sprouts release.
