Squishmallow plush toys are the hot collectible: Here's where to find them in Sioux Falls
Squishmallows are the latest stuffed toy craze to hit store shelves, and they’re flying off of them just as quickly in Sioux Falls as anywhere.
An Argus Leader check of major retailers found few left in several stores.
Just like the days of Beanie Babies, the official brand of Squishmallows, which range from small keychains to 20-inch soft, huggable egg-shaped animals, have become hot collectors’ items in the last few years and among the most popular kids toys of 2021.
Spurred by social media, they're so popular they sell out of stores within days as children and adults love them.
"Our 4-year-old, Eloise, said she loves them because they’re so squishy, soft, and, fun to sit on! We like to put them around the couch on movie nights or use them as pillows while the kids read. They make forts fun too," Paige Thompson, a member of a local mother of preschoolers group said. "We’ve bought them before at Costco in Sioux Falls."
Squishmallows, a brand of Kellytoys, release collections with themes for a limited time only on their official site. With entire groups online dedicated to collecting them all, each set releases in 'Squads' of themed animals like farm or sea life for a limited time.

In stores and even on places like Facebook Marketplace, it’s hard to find specific plush animals or creatures. Online, resale prices can range well above $100, so if you’re searching for a comfort source or new collectible, options are limited.
However, Argus Leader found some local sources. Read below.
Where to find Squishmallows in Sioux Falls
Calls around Sioux Falls found a few restocked as of Jan. 25.
BoxLunch
Currently has mini-sets of official Squishmallows, according to its website.
Claire’s at the Empire Mall
This store is the most-stocked in the region, with a variety of eight to 12-inch newer and older releases including 'Valentine's' and 'Wildlife' Squads, as well as even small keychain varieties are in-store.
Currently, the Chicken Costume, Disney's Mike Wazowski of Monsters; Inc. and more, are in-store.
Walgreens at 41st Street and Louise
Walgreens regularly carries Squishmallow new releases, and has some stock after Argus Leader checked in-store.
Target
The Sioux Falls East at Dawley Farm location has some stock, including the 11-inch Dragon Plush, the 20-inch Sinclair Stackable Avocado Toast plush and more, according to the Target app.
The Sioux Falls location at 41st Street and Louise Avenue also has a more-limited supply, including the Jakarria, the blue Boba drink 11-inch plush, according to the Target app.
