SRC men and women’s basketball roundup. Here are the details!

CANTON—The Spoon River College men’s and women’s basketball teams are getting back up to speed after the semester break and both face big Mid-West Conference games at Illinois Central College on Saturday.

The Snappers women will take a 10-7 record to into action Saturday while the men’s team is 7-10.

“We’ve been on a roller coaster,” said Snappers women’s coach Marc Lowe, whose team is 2-2 since Christmas.

“We had a player - Chi Dailey - join the team after the semester but we have lost Anaiya Unde to injury.

“We have some adjustments with having a different style of player.

“I am pleased with how we’re playing and how we have come back.”

The Snappers won 5 Kankakee 78-68 on Jan. 8 lost to Lincoln Land 77-33, lost to Lake Land 62-46 and won at John Wood 67-51 on Wednesday.

Before her season ending injury, Unde had led the team with a 14.3 point scoring average.

Recently, the team has been led by freshman Krista Koke at 10.2 points per game, sophomore Lezhauria Williams at 9.7 and sophomore Cori Hamm at 9.5:

Sophomore Kailyn Anderson averages 6.0 rebounds to lead in that department.

The remainder of the Snappers’ schedule is heavy with conference games.

“We face nationally ranked teams like ICC, Parkland, Lake Land and Lincoln Land,” said Lowe, whose team is 1-1 in the league.

“The are the big teams we have to contend with.”

The Spoon River men are coming off an 87-75 loss at John Wood on Wednesday.

“We’ve been shaky,” said coach Chance Jones.

“We healed up a little bit over the break but not as much as I would have liked.

“We’re playing better. We’ve competed every game but we’re just not playing in ways to win.”

Spoon River fell at No. 2-ranked South Suburban 96-80 on Jan. 8, won at St Louis 69-66 and downed Lincoln Land 93-64 before Wednesday’s loss.

The Snappers have been led in scoring by Trevor Dennis at 14.3 points per game.

T.C. Wright averages 12.6 points, Dakai Hines 11.6 and Micale Mee 11.1.

Aaron Tim’s leads with 5.0 rebounds per game.

The Snappers are 1-1 in the Mid-West Conference.

“All the teams are pretty loaded this year,” said Jones.

“John Wood is probably the favorite but they got beat by Parkland. Danville is 11-2.

“It’s up for grabs every night really.”
