Salem Regional Medical Center's laboratory has received national recognition for quality and safety from the College of American Pathologists.

SRMC’s laboratory was awarded the accreditation after an extensive on-site inspection of its records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examined the lab’s equipment and facilities, safety program and records, staff qualifications and overall management.

The accreditation runs through 2025.

“Our Laboratory participates in the CAP accreditation program to ensure that we are meeting the highest standards in patient care,” said Michele Perry, director of laboratory services for SRMC. “Retaining this accreditation is a tremendous accomplishment that reaffirms our team’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality laboratory services for our patients and their caregivers.”

Widely considered the “gold standard” in laboratory quality assurance, the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized by the U.S. government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
