SRMC welcomes resident physicians

Jul. 22—CLINTON — Sampson Regional Medical Center has introduced its incoming class of resident physicians. For the next one to three years, over 20 physicians from throughout the country will train in the local medical community as family medicine, dermatology, and transitional year residents.

The Family Medicine Residency has welcomed four physicians, including:

—Matthew Ammons, D.O. is from Coats. He received his bachelor's degree and completed his Medical Doctorate at Campbell University. He enjoys spending time with family, and outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing.

—Hailey Boyd, D.O. was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. She received her bachelor's degree from Westminster College and The College of Idaho and received her Medical Doctorate from Western University of Health Sciences College of Medicine of the Pacific.

—Daniele Ramirez-Puentes, M.D. was born and raised in Catano, Puerto Rico. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, her master's degree from Albizu University, and her Medical Doctorate from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts and Nevis. Dr. Ramirez-Puentes enjoys gardening, traveling, and spending time with family.

—Laurie Rodriguez-Rodriguez, M.D. was born and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She received her bachelor's degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, and the University of Puerto Rico Piedras. She completed her Medical Doctorate at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez enjoys reading, writing, and watching films.

The Family Medicine Residency Program at SampsonRMC is led by Dr. John-Mark Miller, program director, director of Medical Education, and Campbell University School of Medicine Regional Dean. During their three-year program, family medicine residents care for patients at Sampson Medical Group of Clinton. In addition to elective rotations forspecial interests, resident physicians complete rotations in emergency medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN, NICU, pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics, and community medicine.

In the Dermatology Residency Program, Dr. Ryan Geist and Dr. Kayd Pulsipher are 2023 graduates of SampsonRMC's Transitional Year residency, matched into the SampsonRMC Dermatology Residency, and will stay in the SampsonRMC family as dermatology residents. Both physicians will train in dermatology offices in Wilmington and Clinton under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Crane, program director.

Transitional Year Residents are led by Dr. Subodh Pal, program director. Transitional Year refers to the year of Graduate Medical Education (GME) before a physician chooses a specialized residency program. The Transitional Year Residency covers all general medical areas and exposes physicians-in-training to a wide variety of patients with rotations through different disciplines.

Transitional Year Residents include:

—Angela Binkowski, D.O., is from Pikeville, Ky., and graduated from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Binkowski is pre-matched in Dermatology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania.

—Phuong Daniels, D.O., is from Erie, Pa., and graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Daniels is pre-matched and will continue training within the SampsonRMC Dermatology Residency Program following the completion of her transitional year.

—Claudia Green, D.O., is from Erie, Pa., and graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Green is pre-matched in Dermatology and will attend HMH Palisades Medical in New Jersey after one year in the SampsonRMC Transitional Year program.

—Alexandra Taylor, D.O., is from Lillington, and graduated from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Taylor is pre-matched and will continue training within the SampsonRMC Dermatology Residency Program following the completion of her transitional year.

The fully accredited residency program is offered by SampsonRMC through affiliation with the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine at Campbell University. The accreditation is through the Accreditation Council for Graduation Medical Education (ACGME).
