SS Badger Lake Michigan car ferry makes its first sail to Manitowoc this week. Here's how to join the festivities.

MANITOWOC - The S.S. Badger Lake Michigan car ferry makes its maiden voyage of the season from Ludington, Michigan, to Manitowoc on Thursday.

The 410-foot S.S. Badger will arrive in Manitowoc around noon — and the community is invited to join in a festive welcome at the car ferry dock at 900 S. Lakeview Drive that will include music by the Manitowoc Lincoln High School band.

The S.S. Badger, which will sport a fresh coat of paint this year, will continue to operate daily from May 12 through Oct. 16.

In addition to the sailings between Ludington and Manitowoc, three Manitowoc shoreline cruise dates are scheduled along the lakefront — in the afternoon on June 25 and Aug. 20 and in the evening on July 30. More info is at ssbadger.com or by calling 1-800-841-4243.

While at the event, the public is also invited to stop in to the city's new Visit Manitowoc Visitor Information Center within the car ferry ticket office at the dock.
