A gold-medal performance by senior William Dunaway helped the St. Andrew’s boys cross-country team race to the championship at the Southwest Preparatory Conference Class 4A state meet.

Dunaway clocked a time of 16 minutes, 1.5 seconds on the 5-kilometer course Nov. 5 at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. As a team, St. Andrew’s compiled 57 points to edge St. John’s, which had 61 points.

Sophomore Luke Dial finished fifth, senior Jake Gooch placed seventh and freshman Reed Robinson finished 12th to join Dunaway in receiving all-conference medals by placing in the top 20 individually. Senior William Sykes placed 35th overall to complete the St. Andrew’s team scoring.

The St. Andrew’s girls placed fourth at the meet on the strength of top-10 finishes from sophomores Kate Preheim and Ava Sweeney.
