St. Clair, Buchanan and Coleman honored for their work

NEW CONCORD − George St. Clair, Tim Buchanan and LaVawn Coleman were recently inducted into the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame of East Muskingum Local Schools.

St. Clair is a 1960 graduate of New Concord High School and is a graduate of Meredith Business College. He established the financial accounting office at what is now Muskingum University. He served 15 years as the controller, followed by 20 years of similar service at Ohio University of Zanesville.

St. Clair is a longtime member of the Lions Club and has served on boards that helped develop Evergreen Village, SEO Symphony and EMSPA, as well as Design Review. He is a current member of the New Concord Garden Club and the New Concord/JGHS Alumni Association. He's an elder and choir member at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Sharing his love of history, he serves as chair of the Harper Cabin Committee and led the creation of the second-floor gallery of New Concord history. Currently, he serves as president of the board of trustees of the Museum Association of East Muskingum and is a familiar face at the National Road Zane Grey Museum and the John and Annie Glenn Museum.

Coleman is a 1982 graduate of John Glenn High School and a graduate of Ohio State University and the Moritz College of Law at OSU. She is executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for Grange Insurance Company, a $3.3 billion asset and $1.4 billion revenue insurance company in Columbus. She leads general counsel, compliance, internal audit and house counsel, while also serving as legal adviser to the CEO.

In addition to serving as corporate secretary to the Grange Enterprise Board of Directors, Coleman serves, or has served, on industry boards and non-profit boards including the Ohio Insurance Guaranty Association, Ohio Chamber of Commerce, National Conference of Insurance Guaranty Funds, New Directions Career Center, the Center for Healthy Families and Lettuce Work.

Buchanan is a 1990 graduate of John Glenn High School and a 1994 graduate of Bluffton University. He has served the citizens of Ohio through his career with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. He's worked in several correctional institutions across Ohio in many various capacities including warden of two facilities. He led local reentry coalition efforts for several years to unify Muskingum County and Southeastern Ohio stakeholders in order to make for a safer community. Buchanan has presented at many national conferences regarding sustainability practices that are possible inside the correctional setting.

While in high school, Buchanan played varsity basketball and continued his interest in the sport, playing at Bluffton University before focusing on career opportunities. He is driven most by his responsibilities as a father, often coaching sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer and lacrosse.
