St. Clair County coroner IDs woman fatally struck by a car in Fairview Heights

The St. Clair County coroner has released the name of the 73-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a car Tuesday night in Fairview Heights.

Genevieve Davis, a homeless person, died after being injured while crossing West Illinois 161 near St. Clair Avenue, Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said Thursday.

The driver of the car waited at the scene until police arrived and passed a field sobriety test, according to a news release from Fairview Heights Police Chief Steve Johnson.

No citation had been issued as of Wednesday.

Davis was treated at the scene by police officers and ambulance crew members and taken to Memorial Hospital in Belleville, where she was pronounced deceased.

“This is a grim reminder about using crosswalks at stop lights,” Johnson said in the release.
