The St. Clair County Democrats will hold a rally Saturday to protest U.S. Supreme Court issues and how the local group’s chairman said it feels like the institution has “lost its direction.”

Slated for 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Park in Port Huron, the Dems’ have shared preview signs targeting things like reforming the court and restoring Roe v. Wade, the ‘70s landmark case that set the previous precedent protecting abortion rights until it was reversed in 2022.

“It’s a rally to raise awareness about the fact that the court’s making decisions that are really outrageous,” said Jim Frank, the county party’s chairman. “There’s a lot of frustration, I think, on the part of a lot of citizens, that the Supreme Court is not just making decisions that it doesn’t have the standing to make — such as the … elimination of up to $20,000 in student loan debt — but it’s also a court that’s becoming increasingly corrupted and influenced by organizations outside the court.”

Frank was referencing a SCOTUS decision last month that struck down a Biden-backed plan to forgive some student loan debt, as well as the scrutiny faced in recent months over the ethics of the nondisclosure of gifts and alleged influence outside the court.

The rally, he said, was organized in connection with a field representative for the Michigan Democratic Party and other local individuals.

The county political group shares more information on its Facebook page and website under St. Clair County Democrats.
