St. Cloud State announces new women's hockey coach

ST. CLOUD — Brian Idalski has been named the new women's hockey head coach at St. Cloud State University, athletics director Heather Weems announced Thursday.

Idalski was a Division I head coach for the North Dakota women's team from 2007-18, recently coaching KRS Vake Rays in Russia’s Women’s Hockey League for three seasons.

He also coached China’s Olympic women's hockey team at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

“I’m really excited to be back in St. Cloud and for the opportunity to lead the women’s hockey program,” Idalski said in a press release. “The WCHA is the best collegiate hockey conference in North America, and I look forward to building St. Cloud State into a winner."

Idalski served as an assistant on the St. Cloud State women's staff in 2006-07 prior to taking the head coaching job at North Dakota. He's also had success at the Division III level, coaching his alma mater UW-Stevens Point to a 108-21-11 record in five seasons from 2001-06.

Idalski will have an introductory press conference on the SCSU campus at a later date.
