St. Cloud State men's hockey finishes weekend series Saturday against MSU-Mankato
ST. CLOUD — The Huskies put on a gritty performance on their way to a sweep of No. 2-ranked MSU Mankato Saturday night.
And Grant Cruikshank's hot streak continues.
More than 5,000 fans were on hand as St. Cloud State skated to the 4-3 win at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Senior center Cruikshank got things going for SCSU with a shorthanded goal at 7:53 in the first period. The goal was Cruikshank's fifth of the season. Mankato answered about two minutes later on a goal by David Silye on goaltender Dominic Baase.
St. Cloud State took a 3-1 lead in the second period on even strength goals by Micah Miller and Chase Brand about a minute-and-a-half apart.
The Mavericks answered at the 16:00 mark in the second period to make the game 3-2. Sam Morton of MSU-Mankato tied the game with a goal at 6:39 in the third.
Cruikshank then sealed the win for the Huskies with a goal past Alec Tracy of MSU-Mankato with less than four minutes left in the game. Cruikshank also had a goal and an assist in Friday's 3-2 win.
The Huskies are now 6-0 and will face Bemidji in a home-and-home series next weekend. Friday's game will be in Bemidji at 7 p.m. and the Beavers will travel to St. Cloud for the 6 p.m. game Saturday, Oct. 29.
MSU-Mankato is now 3-3.
