St. Cloud State University hosts MSU-Mankato in homecoming weekend hockey series

ST. CLOUD — The Huskies are hoping for a happy homecoming this weekend as they face MSU-Mankato at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

St. Cloud State is undefeated after a sweep of Wisconsin last weekend in Madison. SCSU won 5-1 Friday and 2-1 on a third-period power play goal Saturday. They opened their 2022-23 season at home with a sweep of St. Thomas.

The Huskies are ranked No. 8 in the latest USA Today poll. MSU-Mankato is No. 2 behind Minnesota in the top spot.

The games are part of homecoming week festivities on the SCSU campus.

On Saturday there will be a FanFest celebration that begins at 3 p.m. on Herb Brooks Way. The free event will feature live music from the HoneyBadgers, an inflatable obstacle course for kids, axe throwing and food trucks.

The St. Cloud State women's hockey team will play Minnesota in a WCHA matchup at 3 p.m. Friday.

St. Cloud State won 5-4 against the Mavericks in the NCAA Frozen Four semifinal game April 8, 2021, in Pittsburgh, Pa. The teams last met Oct. 8-9, 2021, in Mankato when they split the series. The Huskies hold a 6-4 advantage in the team's last 10 meetings.

Friday night's game starts at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's begins at 6 p.m.

  • 6 p.m. — Alumni Art Exhibit Reception, Paramount Theatre Gallery

  • 6 p.m. — Men's Soccer vs. Northern Michigan, Husky Stadium

  • 7:30 p.m. — Men's Hockey vs. Minnesota State-Mankato, Herb Brooks National Hockey Center

Saturday

  • 3 p.m. — Huskies Fan Fest, Herb Brooks Way

  • 4 p.m. — Live music by HoneyBadgers, Herb Brooks Way

  • 6 p.m. — Men’s Hockey vs. Minnesota State-Mankato, Herb Brooks National Hockey Center

Sunday

  • Noon — Men's Soccer vs. UW-Parkside, Husky Stadium
