St. George Regional Airport to get new food option with ‘self-contained’ kiosk

After relying for years on vending machines as its only food option, the St. George Regional Airport is about to get a new amenity.

The St. George City Council approved an agreement Thursday with Tailwind SGU, LLC, to install a "self-contained" kiosk inside the airport that would offer grab-and-go items like baked goods, smoothies, sandwiches and an espresso bar. A small retail area selling souvenirs and travel-related gear would also be included, according to plans shared with the city.

Airport traffic has increased quickly in recent years, with more than 325,000 travelers counted last year, and without any food options inside the airport or anywhere nearby — there are no restaurants or other food options in the area of the airport terminal — passengers have complained. In surveys, more than 90% said they would prefer fresh food options at the airport.

The new kiosk is slated to open on Aug. 1.

The city's agreement rents a space inside the terminal for $250 per month, plus a portion of gross revenues.

A new master plan for the airport outlines a series of improvements planned out over the next decade, including a terminal expansion and other new construction.
