St. Johns County Council on Aging releases February events schedule

The St. Johns County Council on Aging has released its schedule of classes and events for February 2023. COA offers activities, services, programs and opportunities for all ages.

Help with Medicare Questions: SHINE volunteers will be at River House from 9 a.m. to noon on the second Monday of each month to answer general Medicare-related questions. Reserve by calling 904-209-3655.

Healing Hearts: After the loss of a loved one, coping with daily living can be hard. Knowing you are not alone in your difficult journey can make all the difference. Meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

One-on-One Tech Help: One-on-one help for your smart phone, tablet, or laptop questions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays. Call 904-209-3655 to reserve a spot.

Happy Hookers: Come join this social group as they crochet, knit, etc. from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.

Open Art Studio: Bring your art project to work on while you socialize with other artists from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.

STA Strong BHOF (Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation) Education Group: This group meets bimonthly to learn about prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. The next meeting is from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. March 8.

Widow to Widow: Join us for a support group by widows for widows at 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday.

Open Board Game Play: Bring a board game or use a provided one from 1 to 4 p.m. every Wednesday.

Book Club: Come join others in reading and discussing various books from 2 to 3:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Call 904-209-3655 for book title.

Rightsizing – Downsizing:What issues do longtime homeowners and downsizing seniors face? Meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month. The next meeting is Feb. 16.

Open Card Play: Bring a deck of cards and socialize over a friendly card game of your choosing from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m. every Thursday.

Caregiver Support Group: All caregivers are welcome from 1 to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. There is a trained facilitator present at every meeting to guide the group.

Herbology: Discussion this month will be on the therapeutic use of herbs. This hands-on course is taught by Professor James Carucci from 3 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday in February. Grief Support Group: This group is for anyone dealing with grief from the loss of a loved one and offers support and validation by being with people who have experienced loss. A trained facilitator will be present from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 1 and 15.

Mah Jongg Meet-up: Open play for experienced players from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 1, 8 and 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 15.

Tai Chi: Improve mood, increase energy and stamina, improve flexibility, balance and muscle strength with instructor Dennis Sheils.
