St. Johns County schools parents want 7 books banned. Here is a list.

Following a heated meeting Tuesday in which several audience members were escorted out, the St. Johns County School Board voted 3-2 against banning seven books that were challenged by school parents from library shelves.

Following are the seven books that will remain in the district's libraries:

'My Rainbow,' by DeShanna Neal and Trinity Neal

A mother puts love into action as she creates the perfect rainbow-colored wig for her transgender daughter, based on the real-life experience of mother-daughter advocate duo Trinity and DeShanna Neal.

'Peanut Goes for the Gold,' by Jonathan Van Ness

A younger reader's picture book that follows the adventures of Peanut, a gender nonbinary guinea pig who does everything with their own personal flare.

"Ho'onani: Hula Warrior"

'Ho'onani Hula Warrior,' by Heather Gale

The book centers around identity, acceptance and Hawaiian culture. It is based on the true story of a young girl in Hawaii who is exploring her gender identity but who dreams of leading the boys-only hula troupe at her school.

This memoir of an LGBTQ activist explores his childhood, adolescence and college experience as a Black queer boy. Contains very graphic and sexual language including a scene in which a rape is described in a positive light.

'White Privilege (Race in America),' by M.T. Blakemore

"White Privilege" examines the historical forces that have disadvantaged people of color and discusses how these forces continue to influence the media, education, politics and other areas of life today.

A New York Times best-seller, the book challenges white people to unpack their biases, take action and dismantle the privilege within themselves.

'Boys Will Be Boys: Power, Patriarchy and Toxic Masculinity,' by Clementine Ford

The author examines what she sees as a patriarchal society as destructive for men as it is for women, creating a dangerously limited idea of what it is to be a man. The book  sheds light on what needs to change for equality to become a reality.
