St. Joseph Central Catholic announces senior awards

FREMONT — St. Joseph Central Catholic held its commencement May 29 and awards ceremony on May 27.

Laura Schnell was Valedictorian and Antonio Baez was named Salutatorian. Ranking third in the graduating class was Sarah Blankenship.

The Bishop’s Cross Award was given to Schnell and Baez. It is given annually to one male and one female senior who over their high school career have exhibited the virtues fostered by this Catholic institution and is considered to be the highest ranking award.

Other awards presented included: Ethel Smith Outstanding Female Athlete Award, Alayna Paeth; Robert Smith Outstanding Male Athlete Award, Tyler Kocsis; Alumni and Friends Award, Antonio Baez; Thomas H. Rimelspach Memorial Award, Alayna Paeth;

Honor Award for Outstanding Loyalty and Service, Aiden Steinmetz; Sara Barbour Memorial Award for Courage, Lillie Michael; Excellence in Religion Award, Paige Drusback and Aiden Steinmetz.

Some of the scholarships that were announced at the Awards Ceremony were: Michael D. Root Scholarship, Antonio Baez; Sara M. Barbour Memorial Scholarship, Laura Schnell & Sarah Blankenship; Nicholas R. Darr Memorial Scholarship, Allison Eberly; Don W. Miller Scholarship, Antonio Baez, Paige Drusback and Laura Schnell; The Donald W. and Marguerite Jane Paul Scholarship, Alayna Paeth and Tyler Kocsis; Fremont Federation of Women Distinguished Service, Laura Schnell;

Big Nut Scholarship for the Ohio State University, Laura Schnell; Mike Piero Scholarship, Paige Drusback; ProMedica Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Health Education Scholarship, Kayla Lopez, Alayna Paeth and Laura Schnell; Pillars Trust Scholarship, Elijah Kitchen; Dick and Barbara Berger Scholarship, Laura Schnell, Paige Drusback, Antonio Baez and Tyler Kocsis; and National Merit Scholarship Award Winner,  Antonio Baez.
