St. Joseph city administrator resigns to take job with Big Lake

ST. JOSEPH ― St. Joseph City Administrator Therese Haffner will resign from her current position to take a community development director position with the city of Big Lake, said Mayor Rick Schultz.

Haffner has been city administrator since September 2020 and was St. Joseph's community development director for four years prior to that role. Schultz said once Haffner's resignation is accepted by the city council, it will go into effect Nov. 2, "which gives the city a small opportunity to determine transition."

On Monday the city council voted to install a temporary interim city administrator and contract with an executive recruiting firm to find and hire a new city administrator, Schultz said. The council plans to hire an interim administrator by the second week of October, he said.

Haffner's last day will be mid-October, with some vacation time, Schultz said.

Prior to her roles in St. Joseph city government, Haffner was a community development director for Becker and had worked in Sartell's planning department.
