These St. Louis-area restaurants and chefs are up for 2024 James Beard Awards

ST. LOUIS – The James Beard Awards have recognized culinary excellence for decades, and they’re considered among the most prestigious food accolades in the country.

Several St. Louis-area restaurants and chefs are semifinalists for this year’s James Beard Awards.

Nominees for several categories will be announced on April 3, and the winners will be honored at a ceremony in Chicago on June 10.

“The awards recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and broader food system, as well as a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive,” said the James Beard Foundation.

Outstanding Restauranteur

  • Michael Gallina, Tara Gallina, and Aaron Martinez of Take Root Hospitality Restaurant Group (The group is linked to many St. Louis restaurants like Vicia, Winslow’s Table, Bistro La Floraison)

Best New Restaurant

  • Mainlander (St. Louis – 8 South Euclid Avenue)

  • Sado (St. Louis – 5201 Shaw Avenue)

Outstanding Bakery

Best Chef – Midwest

  • Rob Connoley – Bulrush (St. Louis – 3307 Washington Avenue)

  • Philip Day, Root Food + Wine (Augusta, Mo. – 5525 Walnut Street)

  • Loryn Nalic, Balkan Treat Box (Webster Groves, Mo. – 8103 Big Bend Boulevard)
