St. Louis County councilman Mark Harder launches run for Missouri State Senate

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – St. Louis County Councilman Mark Harder is running for a Missouri State Senate seat that represents parts of west St. Louis County.

Harder filed paperwork with the Secretary of State’s office on Tuesday to officially launch his campaign.

Harder will run for Republican nomination in the Missouri Senate’s 15th District, which includes parts of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Manchester, Wildwood, and many surrounding cities.

Harder says economic growth, infrastructure, and public safety are among his top priorities.

As a member of the St. Louis County Council, Harder has pushed for strong police enforcement of expired temp tags, in addition to transparency on COVID-19 relief funds and mandates. He also pushed for senior property tax breaks that became a law last November.

Harder said in a statement to FOX 2 on Wednesday on his reasons for seeking Missouri State Senate:

“Unlike career politicians who are focused on their own interests and the pet projects of special interest groups, I am a dedicated husband, grandfather, and father who is committed to delivering results for the families of St. Louis County…

“I’m not afraid to stand up for what I believe in and to fight for the values that matter most to our community. Right now, more than ever, the state senate needs adults in the room willing to tackle the important issues confronting our state.  I’ve focused on real results for our community during my time on the County Council, and I’ll take that same approach with me to Jefferson City.”

Missouri Senate’s 15th District seat is currently held by Sen. Andrew Koenig, who is out of terms to serve after this year.
