St. Louis police identify 3 men killed in shooting

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Police confirmed Thursday that three men were killed and another was injured in a shooting in north St. Louis.

The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Walnut Park West neighborhood.

Those who were killed were identified Thursday as Malik Taylor, 22; and Elijah McKinney and Daijon Nearing, both 18. All were from St. Louis.

No further information about the shooting was released Thursday.

Police initially gave conflicting accounts regarding the number of people injured in the shooting, but on Thursday confirmed one person was injured with gunshot wounds to a leg, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Police have said the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two groups of people, and that dozens of shots were fired. Investigators reported finding one gun at the scene, but no arrests had been reported Thursday.

St. Louis has been among the nation’s deadliest cities for many years, and 2020 is shaping up to be one of the worst on record, with at least 153 killings so far. The city had 194 homicides in all of 2019.
