Oct. 12—COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the fifth official weekly football computer ratings on Tuesday.

The weekly computer ratings are released every Tuesday beginning in the fourth week of the season, leading up to the final report on Oct. 24, when 448 schools (top 16 in each region) will officially qualify for the playoffs.

In Division IV, Region 14 continues to be filled with teams from the SBC Lake and Bay divisions in playoff contention.

That includes Edison (4-4), which has crept back into the top 16 after winning for the third time in four weeks with a 21-20 overtime win on Oct. 9 at Oak Harbor.

With two weeks left, which includes a game this Friday at Vermilion (1-7) and the regular season finale vs. current No. 14 seed Huron (5-3), the Chargers are in the 16th and final spot in the region.

State-ranked Bellevue (7-1) has essentially wrapped up the top seed in the region. Should the Chargers stay 16th it would be a Week 2 rematch of a 21-14 loss at Bellevue on Aug. 27.

Along with Bellevue, Edison and Huron, three other SBC teams currently are in line to not only make the playoffs, but are in line to have first-round home games on Oct. 29.

Clyde (6-2) is the No. 2 seed behind Bellevue ahead of its U.S. 20 rivalry game with the Redmen on Oct. 22 in Clyde. Perkins (6-2) is fourth and SBC Bay leader Port Clinton (7-1) is fifth.

In Div. VI Region 22, Western Reserve (6-2) is up two spots from 10th to eighth following a 21-20 win over Monroeville on Oct. 8. That would give the Roughriders the eighth and final home playoff game if they are able to stay in the top eight. Western is at South Central (2-5) this Friday and currently do not have a game scheduled in Week 10.

Three other Firelands Conference teams continue to remain among the top 16 in Div. VII, Region 25, led by unbeaten and state-ranked St. Paul.

The Flyers (7-0) furthered their grip on the top spot in the region and gained 3.48 points despite being idle last week. They are now 3.5695 points ahead of No. 2 Lucas (6-1) entering this Saturday's monster game at Ashland Crestivew (8-0), the No. 2 team currently in Div. VI Region 22.

Despite a 43-8 loss to the Cougars on Oct. 8, Plymouth (4-4) held at No. 11 this week in the region. The Big Red currently do not have a game scheduled this week before closing the regular season at home against South Central.

Monroeville (3-5) fell two spots from 13th to No. 15 this week with the narrow defeat at Western Reserve. The Eagles have a key home game vs. Mapleton (2-5) — the current No. 18 team in the region — this Friday at Marsh Field before closing the regular season at rival St. Paul on Oct. 23.

In Div. II Region 6, Olmsted Falls (6-2) is 13th among the top 16 teams. The Bulldogs are coached by Tom DeLuca, a 1999 Norwalk graduate.
