Today would have been Newberry Elementary School's Watermelon Day where more than 120 first graders would have learned about watermelons from national and regional Watermelon queens. Newberry held its annual Watermelon Festival on Saturday.

The event was set to take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Due to the security concerns earlier in the day, the event was cancelled.
